Notenpult

Handbuch › Einstellungen & mehr

Plattformen

So geht's:

  1. Öffne notenpult.imb24.com/app/ in Safari.

  • Kein MIDI: Safari unterstützt kein Web MIDI.
  • Bildschirm an: erst ab iPadOS 16.4.

Platforms

Notenpult runs on Windows, on Android tablets and in the browser – on the iPad via Safari. This chapter lists what does not work, or only partly, where and why.

Windows

Windows 10 and 11. By default the library lives in Documents\Notenpult\libraries, but you can choose any folder.

Limitations:

  • Take photos (camera import) is not available. You can still scan QR codes with the built-in camera (e.g. on a Surface).
  • Share/Open with from other apps exists only on Android. Use drag & drop or Import scores.
  • Bluetooth MIDI: Notenpult does not pair Bluetooth MIDI devices itself on Windows. They work only if Windows (current Windows 11) or a driver offers them as a normal MIDI device.
  • Pedal: Set your pedal to keyboard mode. Notenpult does not support a "volume keys" mode.
  • Firewall: The first time you sync or couple in the Wi-Fi, Windows asks whether Notenpult may communicate on the network. Allow it for private networks (see Firewall).
  • Stage coupling over Bluetooth: Leading over Bluetooth works only if the device's Bluetooth chip supports it. Following always works.
  • Audio: M4A/AAC needs the Windows media features. In "N" editions without the Media Feature Pack these files cannot be played. Ogg/Opus is not supported anywhere.

The screen stays on while Notenpult is in use; the screensaver does not start either.

Microsoft Store: Notenpult for Windows is available from the Microsoft Store; Windows installs and updates the app through the Store, and Settings › About says “Updates via the Microsoft Store”. Older installations from the installer or ZIP use the same data as the Store version – after switching everything is still there: settings, profile and keys are in %APPDATA%\imb24 GmbH\Notenpult, the library in Documents\Notenpult. Updates, uninstalling and reinstalling leave them where they are.

Android

Android tablets (and phones, e.g. as a remote control). The library lives in the app data or in a folder of your choice. Notenpult for Android comes from Google Play; Play installs and updates the app, and Settings › About shows "Updates via Google Play".

Limitations:

  • Drag & drop is not available. Import with Import scores or with Share/Open with from other apps (PDF and images).
  • Foreground only: Wi-Fi sync, live sync and stage coupling run only while Notenpult is visible. Otherwise Android closes the connections. Afterwards they continue by themselves.
  • Cloud sync: via Google Drive or WebDAV; the folder of a sync program is available on Windows only.
  • Permissions: Android asks for the camera (QR codes, taking photos) and for Nearby devices (Bluetooth coupling, Bluetooth MIDI) only when you use the feature (see Permissions).
  • Pedal: Notenpult reads pedals as keyboard keys only. Set the pedal to a keyboard mode (arrow keys, Page Up/Down); a "volume keys" mode is not supported.
  • Audio tempo and pitch may cause dropouts on weak devices.

You search for and pair Bluetooth MIDI devices directly in the app (see Bluetooth MIDI).

Browser (Chrome, Edge)

Notenpult runs as a web app (PWA) in the browser and also works offline after the first load. Chrome and Edge are best suited. The web app lives at notenpult.imb24.com/app/ and starts only as an installed app: in a normal tab it shows instructions for installing it (Chrome/Edge: Install app). Firefox on a computer cannot install web apps – use Chrome or Edge there, or on Windows the app from the Microsoft Store (notenpult.imb24.com/download/).

The library lives in the browser storage. It is lost if you clear the browser's site data – so make a backup regularly. The automatic metadata snapshots live there too. In Chrome/Edge on a computer you can keep the library in a real folder (experimental); after a restart the browser may ask for access again.

The browser downloads updates in the background. If a new version is already there when you open the web app (or arrives in the first seconds, before you tap anything), Notenpult reloads once and starts right away with the new version – never in performance mode, and never while a score is open or being restored. Later only the notice New version – reload appears; you decide when.

What does not work in the browser – and why:

  • Folder import: browsers give no access to whole folders.
  • Wi-Fi sync: browsers may not look for other devices on the network. Instead the browser syncs by QR code with a Windows/Android device (see Browser and iPad). Two browsers cannot sync with each other.
  • Cloud sync: browsers have no access to sync folders – use Google Drive or WebDAV (cloud sync). WebDAV works only if the server allows access from the browser; the Google sign-in lasts one hour.
  • Stage coupling: only over Bluetooth and only as a participant (follow, right book page, remote control), not lead.
  • Share/Open with from other apps is not available.
  • Clipboard: the menu item Paste from clipboard needs the browser's permission. Ctrl+V in the library always works. The browser often cannot download files from links because the server forbids it.
  • Take photos opens the camera on a tablet and a file dialog on a computer.
  • MIDI: works in Chrome and Edge; the browser asks for permission (including SysEx) when you switch it on. Bluetooth MIDI only if the operating system offers the device as a MIDI device.
  • Pedal: Set your pedal to keyboard mode.

iPad (Safari)

There is no separate iPad app. You use Notenpult as a web app in Safari.

How to:

  1. Open notenpult.imb24.com/app/ in Safari.
  2. Tap Share and then Add to Home Screen.
  3. From now on start Notenpult from the icon on the home screen. It then runs full screen and offline.

Everything from the Browser section applies, plus:

  • Storage: Safari may delete website data after a longer time without use. Notenpult asks for persistent storage, but nobody can guarantee it. Make a backup regularly or sync with another device.
  • No MIDI: Safari does not support Web MIDI. Smart buttons with MIDI, MIDI actions and loading scores by MIDI do not work.
  • No stage coupling: Safari has no Bluetooth, and browsers cannot connect directly in the Wi-Fi.
  • Screen on: only from iPadOS 16.4. With older versions Settings shows a notice – then switch off auto-lock in the iPad settings (see Screen stays on).
  • Apple Pencil: pressure is supported as well as Safari reports it.
  • Pitch pipe and audio: sound starts only after a tap on the screen (a Safari rule).
  • Printing may only open the PDF preview.
  • Sync: via a Windows/Android device by QR code, a cloud sync or files.
