Notenpult

Handbuch › Gemeinsam spielen

So geht's:

Mitglieder einladen

Nur Admins können einladen. Öffne Gruppenwechsler › Mitglieder….

So geht's:

  1. Tippe auf Mitglied einladen.

So geht's:

Wer sieht was?

Du entscheidest selbst, was die Gruppe sieht.

Gruppe verlassen

Mitglieder… › Gruppe verlassen.

Groups and sharing

A group is a library you share with other people – for example with your band, your choir or your orchestra section.

Your profile

On the first start Notenpult creates a profile for you. You find it at the very top of Settings › Your profile.

  • Display name: This is how the other members of your groups see you. Change it with the pen icon. A new name reaches the others with the next sync.
  • Fingerprint: a short string that identifies you. When inviting, the admin compares this fingerprint so nobody can pretend to be you.

Your first library ("My scores") is your personal group: only you and your own devices belong to it. It causes no network traffic at all as long as you do not pair further devices. There is no account – the profile lives only on your devices (more under Privacy).

Create a new group

The menu of the group switcher

At the top right of the library you see the name of the open group with a small arrow. This is the group switcher (tooltip Groups). Use it to switch between your groups; it also holds all group commands: Members…, Sync…, New group…, Join group… and Manage groups….

How to:

  1. Tap the group switcher and choose New group….
  2. Enter a Group name.
  3. On Windows and Android you can also choose a Folder for the library (in the browser only Chrome/Edge on a computer, experimental). Without a choice it goes to the default location.
  4. Tap Create. You are now the admin of the new group.

Manage groups… lists all groups on this device. There you can rename the open group or delete a group from this device. Only admins can rename a group for everybody – either there or under Members… with the pen next to the group name (Rename group). The new name appears on all devices after the next sync.

Invite members

Only admins can invite. Open group switcher › Members….

How to:

  1. Tap Invite member.
  2. On Windows and Android the app asks whether you want to Sync in the same Wi-Fi. This is recommended: the invited device then fetches the invitation directly from you and sends its request back.
  3. Tap Create invitation. A QR code with the invitation text appears.
  4. Let the new person scan the QR code – or send them the text (Copy) or the file (Save as file), e.g. by messenger or e-mail.

Good to know:

  • An invitation is valid for 24 hours and is for one person. Create a new one for every further person.
  • With "Sync in the same Wi-Fi" the QR code only works in the same Wi-Fi and only in the app for Windows/Android. Without Wi-Fi, pass on the text or the file.
  • Until you confirm the join, the new device receives no content of the group at all.

Invite a browser or iPad

Someone using Notenpult in the browser (for example on an iPad) cannot use the normal Wi-Fi QR code. For this, Members on a Windows or Android device has the button Invite browser/iPad:

  1. Tap Invite browser/iPad. A connection code appears.
  2. In the browser: group switcher › Join group… and scan the code.
  3. The browser now shows a code of its own. On the Windows/Android device tap Scan the browser's code and scan it.
  4. Confirm the join. The group's content follows right away over this connection.

Both devices must be in the same Wi-Fi (no guest Wi-Fi with client isolation). Invitations created in the browser work by text or file only.

Join a group

How to:

  1. Tap the group switcher and choose Join group….
  2. Scan the invitation's QR code with Scan QR code, paste the text or open the invitation file with Open file….
  3. Check group name, admin and fingerprint and tap Join.
  4. The app shows your join request as QR code, text or file. In the same Wi-Fi it goes to the admin device automatically, and the group arrives by itself after the confirmation.
  5. Without Wi-Fi, send the request to the admin. They send you a group package back, which you load under Members… › Import group package. Then You are now a member of the group. appears.

Until the confirmation the group is already in your group switcher, but still empty. Members… then shows Join pending; Show join request brings up the request again.

By joining you allow this group to sync with the devices of the other members. Nothing is sent at that moment.

Confirm a join (admins)

  • In the Wi-Fi: Members shows the list Join requests. Tap a request, compare the fingerprint with the one on the person's device and tap Accept. Reject discards it.
  • By text or file: Tap Check join request, scan or paste the request, compare the fingerprint and tap Accept. Send the group package shown back to the person.

The app warns you when something is wrong, for example: The invitation had expired. or This invitation was already used by someone else. You can accept an invitation that was already used only on purpose with Accept anyway.

Manage members

The members of a group
1 Invite member · 2 Check join request · 3 Actions for a member · 4 Sync

group switcher › Members… shows:

  • the group name, below it the current state of the group key,
  • all Members with name and fingerprint (you yourself marked "(you)"),
  • Your devices: all your own devices in this group,
  • for admins: Join requests and Former members.

The Sync icon at the top right leads directly to the sync settings.

Every score in the library that belongs to someone else shows e.g. "by Anna" (see Owner).

Take over content of former members

When someone has left the group, their shared scores and setlists still belong to them – nobody can change them any more. Admins see such people under Former members and can take over their content with Take over.

Admins

Admins may invite, confirm joins, remove members, rename the group and give the admin role to others. Whoever creates a group is its first admin.

How to: Tap the menu next to a member (Member actions) and choose Make admin or Remove admin role.

A group can have several admins. That makes sense so that someone can confirm joins even when one admin is not around. If a group has no admin left, the member who has been in it the longest becomes admin automatically.

Who sees what?

You decide what the group sees. In your personal group there is no such choice – everything there is just for you anyway.

Scores and setlists

  • When importing, the app asks Visible for: Only me or Group. The default is your last choice in this group.
  • Change later: In the menu of one of your scores in the library, or in the menu of one of your setlists, choose Who sees it….
  • Widening (from "Only me" to "Group") is always possible. When you narrow it the app warns: What others already received, they keep.
  • When you share for the first time, the notice Sharing sheet music appears once: only share sheet music the group may use – for example sheet music you bought for the group or that is in the public domain. Notenpult does not check rights.

Only the owner of a score or setlist changes its title, pages, order and setlist content. Your own playback settings on other people's scores (for example audio tempo, metronome, auto-scroll, display or practice flags) stay private and are synced only with your own devices. The owner's score stays unchanged.

Annotation layers

Each annotation layer has its own visibility. In the layer menu of the annotation editor, tap Sharing at one of your layers and choose:

  • Only me (default for new layers),
  • People – under Choose people you tick individual members,
  • Group.

Others may edit lets everybody who sees the layer draw on it. Layers of other people show the person's name ("by Anna") and can be hidden one by one. More under Sharing layers.

Pair your own devices

If you use Notenpult on several devices of your own (for example a tablet and a laptop), pair them. All devices then have the same profile, all your groups and your private content too.

How to (Windows and Android, both in the same Wi-Fi):

  1. On the device that is already set up: Settings › Your profile › Add device. A QR code appears, below it an address and a code.
  2. On the new device: Settings › Your profile › Pair with an existing device. Scan the QR code or enter address and code (for example 192.168.1.20:47913 ABCD-EFGH).
  3. Both devices now show a 6-digit code. Compare it and tap Same code on both devices.
  4. Done: Device paired. The devices then sync.

The new device takes over your profile. Empty groups on the new device are removed; others stay as personal groups. After five wrong attempts pairing stops – start Add device again.

Pair a browser or iPad

  1. On the Windows or Android device: Add device › Browser/iPad.
  2. In the browser: Settings › Your profile › Pair with an existing device and scan the code.
  3. The browser shows an answer code. Scan it on the other device with Scan the browser's code.
  4. Compare the code, confirm – the device is paired and synced right away.

Two browsers cannot pair with each other; you always need a Windows or Android device.

Remove a device, remove a member, leave a group

Remove one of your devices

If you lost or gave away a device: Members… › Your devices, tap Remove device next to it. The device receives no new content of this group, and a new group key is distributed. This works per group – so remove the device in every group. It can still read your private content until you start a new profile.

Remove a member (admins)

Menu next to the member › Remove from group. A new group key is created automatically; the person receives nothing new. What they already had, they keep.

Leave a group

Members… › Leave group. Your private content stays on your devices; what others already have, they keep. Afterwards you can delete the group from your device under Manage groups…. You cannot leave your personal group.
