So geht's:

  1. Setze den Haken bei privaten Netzwerken (z. B. Heimnetz, Proberaum).

  • Kein MIDI: Safari unterstützt kein Web MIDI.
  • Kein Bluetooth: deshalb keine Bühnenkopplung und kein Bluetooth-MIDI.
  • Bildschirm an erst ab iPadOS 16.4 (siehe oben).

Deine Noten bleiben in beiden Fällen unverändert.

So geht's:

  1. Tippe auf Neues Profil anlegen und bestätige.
  2. Starte die App neu.

FAQ

Quick answers to typical problems: screen turns off, firewall prompt, permissions, Safari, pedal, devices do not find each other.

The screen turns off

Notenpult keeps the screen on while you use the app – on every screen, not only while playing. It is not dimmed, and on Windows no screensaver starts either. When the app comes back from the background, it requests this again automatically.

If the screen still turns off:

  • iPad/Safari: This works only from iPadOS 16.4. With older versions Settings shows the notice This browser cannot keep the screen on. Please turn off auto-lock manually. Then set Display & Brightness › Auto-Lock to Never in the iPad settings.
  • Battery saver: Some devices and browsers ignore the request in power saving mode. Switch it off for the gig.
  • App in the background: If Notenpult is not in the foreground, the system decides.

Windows asks about the firewall

The first time you sync in the Wi-Fi or couple devices for the stage, Windows shows the Windows Firewall prompt. Notenpult then wants to talk to your other devices on the local network.

How to:

  1. Tick private networks (e.g. home network, rehearsal room).
  2. Confirm with Allow access.

If you declined by mistake, other devices cannot find this device. You can allow it later in Windows under Windows Security › Firewall & network protection › Allow an app through firewall.

Notenpult connects only to devices on the local network and never to a server on the internet (except the cloud folder you set up yourself).

Permissions

Notenpult asks for permissions only when you use a feature that needs them:

  • Camera – to scan QR codes (invitation, pairing, sync with a browser/iPad) and for Take photos. Without a camera you can paste the text instead or open it as a file.
  • Nearby devices (Android 12 and newer) – for stage coupling over Bluetooth and for Bluetooth MIDI.
  • MIDI with SysEx (browser) – Chrome and Edge ask when you switch on Use MIDI under Settings › MIDI. Without this permission MIDI does not work in the browser.
  • Folder access (browser, library in a folder) – after a restart the browser may ask again. Until you allow it, another library opens. The message then reads No access to the library folder. Please allow access when the browser asks.
  • Clipboard (browser) – for Paste from clipboard. Ctrl+V works without asking.

If you declined a permission, grant it again in the system settings or in the browser's site settings.

Safari and iPad

On the iPad Notenpult runs as a web app in Safari. Tips:

  • Add to the home screen: In Safari tap Share › Add to Home Screen and from then on start Notenpult from the icon. It then runs full screen and offline.
  • Storage can disappear: Safari may delete website data after a longer time without use. Make a backup regularly or sync with another device (Browser and iPad).
  • No MIDI: Safari does not support Web MIDI.
  • No Bluetooth: so no stage coupling and no Bluetooth MIDI.
  • Screen on only from iPadOS 16.4 (see above).

All differences are listed under Platforms.

Notice "from a newer Notenpult version"

If the library shows … entries come from a newer Notenpult version – please update., another device of your group has a newer Notenpult version and saved scores, setlists or layers in a newer format.

Your device does not read these entries, and it does not overwrite or delete them either – so nothing is lost. Update Notenpult on this device; then the entries appear. The notice never shows in performance mode.

"Update required"

Sometimes an old Notenpult version has to be retired – for example because of a security issue or a new data format. Notenpult only learns about this when it looks for updates (automatically with your consent, or via Check for updates now). Without internet nothing happens.

  • First the library shows a notice with a date ("Update required by …"). Until then everything works as usual; usually you have 14 days.
  • Once the date has passed, Notenpult shows only Update required the next time it starts or when you close the viewer. An open score and performance mode are never interrupted – not even during a performance.
  • There you can Update now (Windows: download and install the update; Store and Play versions: open the store; web app: reload), open the download page, create a backup or export in the settings. Your music, setlists and annotations stay as they are.

Tip: update as soon as the notice appears – not just before the concert.

Key storage errors

Your groups are protected with keys that Notenpult keeps in the device's protected key storage (Windows: bound to your user account; Android: the system's key storage; browser: bound to the browser profile). If that fails, Settings › Your profile shows one of two messages. In both cases your music is unchanged.

Key storage not available

The key storage cannot be used right now. Profile and group functions are switched off; your keys stay unchanged.

How to: Restart the app. Usually the problem is gone afterwards.

Private keys cannot be read

The keys were protected for another device, user account or browser profile – for example after restoring data onto a new device or after a reset user profile. They cannot be decrypted here.

How to:

  1. Tap Start a new profile and confirm.
  2. Restart the app.
  3. Ask your groups to invite you again, or pair the device again with one of your own devices (see Groups).

The old keys stay stored but cannot be used any more. Details shows the exact error message in case you need help.

The pedal does not work

Bluetooth and USB pedals (page turners) act like a keyboard. Check in this order:

  1. Paired? The pedal must be paired via Bluetooth in the system or connected via USB.
  2. Keyboard mode? Many pedals have several modes. Choose the mode in which the pedal sends keys (e.g. arrow keys or Page Up/Down). Notenpult reads pedals as keyboard keys only; a "volume keys" mode is not supported on any platform.
  3. Key learned? Under Settings › Page turner (pedal) tap a key and then press the pedal (Press the pedal or key now…). Reset to defaults restores the default keys.
  4. In the viewer? The pedal turns pages when a score is open in the viewer.

More under Setting up the pedal.

Auto-scroll is too fast or too slow

  • For the whole score: open Tools › Auto-scroll, set mode and speed and tap Save for this score (see Setting up auto-scroll).
  • Just for now: while auto-scroll runs, tap Auto-scroll faster or Auto-scroll slower in the quick action box, or put these actions on a pedal (see Faster and slower).

Devices do not find each other

If your devices do not find each other for sync or coupling:

  • Same group? Both devices must have the same group open and be members (or paired devices of your own).
  • Sync switched on? Under Sync, Sync in the same Wi-Fi must be on – on both devices.
  • Same Wi-Fi? Both devices in the same network, not one in the guest Wi-Fi and one in the main network.
  • Guest Wi-Fi with client isolation? Many guest and company networks forbid connections between devices. Use Connect by QR code (see Connect by QR code) or the hotspot of a tablet or phone.
  • Windows firewall? See Firewall.
  • Android in the foreground? On Android this works only while Notenpult is visible.
  • Performance mode? Sync pauses there (coupling does not).
  • Browser/iPad? Browsers never find other devices by themselves. Use the QR codes under Browser and iPad. For coupling without Wi-Fi there is Bluetooth (see Connection).

The music is too small

Single page always shows the whole page so nothing is cut off. For details, zoom with two fingers or Ctrl + mouse wheel; the zoom stays saved for that page, also in performance mode. A double tap in the centre shows the whole page again. More under Zooming. Cut white margins away with Crop.

The reference pitch starts late or does not stop

  • First tap a little late? Notenpult creates each note itself the first time it is used and keeps it afterwards. The first tap on a new note or sound can therefore sound a moment later – tap it once before the performance (or use Preview in the smart button). In the browser, the audio output adds a small delay.
  • Stop the note: tap the smart button again (it is filled while it sounds) or the note in the pitch pipe. A chord also ends by itself after the set Duration, see Reference pitch and choir chords.
  • Too quiet in a chord? Several notes are mixed more quietly so nothing distorts. Set the smart button's Volume to 100 % and turn up the device volume.
